When you are in a state of being hypnotized, you show symptoms or signs of it. This is the reason why hypnotists know when to exactly offer suggestions for you to accept. Different people exhibits different kind of symptoms and the intensity differs too. However, most of the time, the symptoms are easy to spot by our naked eyes.

Let’s start off with our 1st symptom which is the reddening of our eyes. Just like a person being drunk or high in chemical substances, some of us experience reddening of our eyes when we are being hypnotized. The reason behind it is that when we are under hypnosis, our eye muscles are relaxed which eventually causes more blood to flow to our eyes. When this happens, our eyes redden.

The next symptom is R.E.M. In case you do not know what R.E.M. stands for, it stands for rapid eye movement. Most of us experience R.E.M. when we are in a deep sleep. When we are undergoing R.E.M., our eyelids flutter at a high speed or simply just the movement from side to side of eyeballs. Hence, when we are hypnotized, we experience rapid eyes movement.

Increased moisture in the eye area, which may look as if the subject is crying, is brought by extreme relaxation of the muscles holding the tear ducts.

The next sign I am going to talk about is the body temperature. When we are very relaxed, our pulse rate tends to slow down just like when you are sleeping. When our pulse rate slows, our body temperature also changes accordingly. How the body temperature changes will vary from different people. For most people, they will feel cold but for some they may feel warm all over.

That scene from the movie “The Exorcist” may slightly be accurate, after all. Eyes rolling back, or eyeballs as if aiming to shoot out from the forehead, are usually experienced once the subject enters a state of trance.

Just remember: hypnosis can be fun, it can be beneficial to others and yourself, it may completely work for you – or it may not at all. Still it is dangerous if abused, or misused.
